Bomb explodes outside Athens Stock Exchange

A woman suffered minor injuries Wednesday after a bomb hidden in a van blew up outside the Athens Stock Exchange building in one of two same-day attacks blamed on leftist or anarchist groups.

Windows were blown out at the stock exchange and neighbouring businesses in the central Votanikos district. The explosion took place shortly before 6 a.m. local time, but trading went on uninterrupted.

A female cleaner working at a building on the other side of a highway from the stock exchange was hurt by flying glass.

..Elsewhere, a government building in the northern city of Thessaloniki was hit by a smaller blast that caused minor damage on Wednesday morning.

…Both attacks were preceded by anonymous warning calls to Greek media, but there was no claim of responsibility. Police said a Greek far-left militant group called Revolutionary Struggle, best known for firing a rocket at the U.S. embassy in Athens in 2007, was suspected in the stock exchange blast.
