Of course, he insists it’s a peaceful nuclear program, the same that Iran says, country with which Chávez signed recently an agreement to begin a “peaceful nuclear program”. But at the same time, he adds that he has bought several “little rockets from Russia”. It’s very doubtful those rockets were bought for “peaceful purposes” too…

Mohammed El Baradei critisized about report regarding Iranian nuclear program (U)

Times Online publishes an article about the report. After you read it, the expression “Iranian nuclear program may contain military dimensions” acquires a new dimension:

France and Israel have led the charge against Dr ElBaradei, saying that his latest report on Iran’s nuclear programme omitted evidence that the agency had been given about an alleged covert weaponisation plan.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry said that the report did not reflect all that the agency knew about Iran’s “efforts to continue to pursue its military programme”.
France went farther, alleging the existence of an unpublished annexe that addresses the evidence that Iran may be building an atom bomb.
Bernard Kouchner, the French Foreign Minister, said that France had attended a technical briefing that covered the material, so was surprised to find it missing from the report.
“In the annexes there are specifically elements which enable us to ask about the reality of an atomic bomb,” he said “There are issues of warheads, of transport.”

So, they actually knew it actually has military dimensions. But plainly, they don’t want anyone to know.

Just for the record: Iran has just now named Interpol wanted terrorist Vahidi to be Minister of Defence. And yet, IAEA is hiding information about its nuclear military peaceful plans. Indecent. Dangerous. And absolutely irresponsable. IAEA is a watchdog, but clearly it’s not fulfilling its duty. And remember Hizbullah and Hamas are just Iranian proxies in Lebanon and Gaza.

Lebanon’s opposition groups formally informed the president on Tuesday of their rejection of a proposed government line-up by prime minister-designate Saad al-Hariri, raising the possibility that Hariri will step aside.

The billionaire magnate handed President Michel Suleiman his proposal on Monday, a move quickly rejected by the “March 8” opposition alliance, that includes Syria- and Iran– backed Hezbollah, because it had not been agreed by them.

Iran rejects world powers’ ultimatum on nuclear program

Spokesman Ghashghavi says Iran won’t bow to the pressure.

After the five members of the UN Security Council and Germany issued a statement calling Iran to negotiating tables regarding its nuclear program, Iran has responded that it will only hold talks with the IAEA.

Iran’s envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has made it clear that any talks with world leaders would not address Iran’s nuclear program, according to the website of al-Alam, a state-run television station.

Ali Ashgar Soltanieh’s comments came a day after a meeting of the United Nations Security Council near Frankfurt, where world powers pressured Iran to accept face to face talks regarding Iran’s nuclear plans.

What is interesting about the case is that it was to be a transcontinental weapons for cocaine trade. While such trades are reported anecdotally, there has been little first-hand evidence of this type of activity among designated terrorist organizations.

Yousef, a former Syrian intelligence officer, was going to sell weapons to Colombian FARC terrorists in exchange of cocaine.

This same day, a US court has jailed Belgian Mr Monsieur. Maybe he is not “famous” for the general public but he certainly is for the intelligence community:

U.S. authorities say Jacques Monsieur, a swashbuckling 56-year-old known as “the Fox” and “the Field Marshal,” conspired with an undercover agent to buy engines and parts for F-5 fighter planes for Iran.

Monsieur faces a six-count federal indictment, unsealed Wednesday, that includes charges of money laundering, smuggling and violating laws against exporting arms to Iran. He has not yet been arraigned.

Investigators arrested Monsieur last week while he was in New York on his way to France, where he lives, officials said. He becomes the latest in a string of high-rollers to fall victim to global undercover arms-trafficking operations by U.S. agents.

…Monsieur, a suave veteran of Belgian military intelligence who breeds horses on a French estate, spent two decades doing business in war zones from the Balkans to Africa.

His specialties are said to be light to medium arms and military aviation parts. He has run afoul of the law in Belgium, France and Iran, according to news reports.

…Since the 1980s, when his name came up in the Iran-Contra affair, he has specialized in supplying Iran, according to Alain Lallemand, a Belgian journalist who wrote an extensive report on Monsieur in 2002 for the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, a branch of the nonprofit Center for Public Integrity.

“Can an interrogator rape the prisoner in order to obtain a confession?” was the follow-up question posed to the Islamic cleric.

Mesbah-Yazdi answered: “The necessary precaution is for the interrogator to perform a ritual washing first and say prayers while raping the prisoner. If the prisoner is female, it is permissible to rape through the vagina or anus. It is better not to have a witness present. If it is a male prisoner, then it’s acceptable for someone else to watch while the rape is committed.”

This reply, and reports of the rape of teen male prisoners in Iranian jails, may have prompted the following question: “Is the rape of men and young boys considered sodomy?”

Ayatollah Mesbah-Yazdi: “No, because it is not consensual. Of course, if the prisoner is aroused and enjoys the rape, then caution must be taken not to repeat the rape.”

A related issue, in the eyes of the questioners, was the rape of virgin female prisoners. In this instance, Mesbah-Yazdi went beyond the permissibility issue and described the Allah-sanctioned rewards accorded the rapist-in-the-name-of-Islam:

“If the judgment for the [female] prisoner is execution, then rape before execution brings the interrogator a spiritual reward equivalent to making the mandated Haj pilgrimage [to Mecca], but if there is no execution decreed, then the reward would be equivalent to making a pilgrimage to [the Shi’ite holy city of] Karbala.”

One aspect of these permitted rapes troubled certain questioners: “What if the female prisoner gets pregnant? Is the child considered illegitimate?”

Mesbah-Yazdi answered: “The child borne to any weakling [a denigrating term for women – ed.] who is against the Supreme Leader is considered illegitimate, be it a result of rape by her interrogator or through intercourse with her husband, according to the written word in the Koran. However, if the child is raised by the jailer, then the child is considered a legitimate Shi’a Muslim.”

Sickening.

Ahmad Vahidi faced no opposition from MPs on the third day of a debate on President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s choices for his new cabinet.

Interpol has distributed Argentina’s warrant for his arrest for an attack on a Jewish centre that killed 85 people.

…Argentine prosecutors allege that Vahidi “participated in and approved of” the decision to attack the Jewish centre.

Really outraging.

Iranians involved in funding Copenhague’s mosque

Iranian financial backing prompts calls from politicians to halt building of mosque in the capital.

The new mosque to be built on Vibevej in Copenhagen’s North West district will be partially funded by Iranian sponsors, reports Kristeligt Dagblad newspaper.

The project is being headed by the Shia Muslim organisation Ahlul Bait and is expected to cost 50 million kroner. It was previously thought that the mosque would be funded solely by private donations from Danish Muslims.

…Integration spokespeople from both the Liberal and opposition Social Democrat parties have called for greater transparency when it comes to financing religious projects to ensure religious extremists and radicals are not involved.

Iranian state television showed the defendants – sitting in rows in a courtroom in Tehran, dressed in pyjama-like prison uniforms – as they confessed to taking part in a plot to undermine the Islamic Republic.

They included some of the country’s most prominent reformist intellectuals. Many looked tired and nervous in front of the cameras.

Australia will investigate the case of a shipment of North Korean weapons seized from an Australian-owned ship en route to Iran to see if its laws were broken, Transport Minister Anthony Albanese said Sunday.

Weapons including rocket launchers, detonators, munitions and ammunition for rocket-propelled grenades were seized on August 14 in the United Arab Emirates from the ANL-Australia, an Australian-owned vessel flying the Bahamas flag.
